Genomics, Federated AI & Privacy: Better AI Health at International Consortium on Newborn Sequencing (ICoNS) 2025

We’re proud to share that the BETTER project, coordinated by Datrix | Embrace the AI Challenge, was featured at ICoNS 2025 – International Conference on Newborn Sequencing, held in London. Cristina Cereda and Stephana carelli from ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco attended the events where it has been emphasized how federated learning can accelerate research while preserving privacy.

BETTER is a Horizon Europe initiative exploring how federated learning can unlock the full potential of genomic and clinical data, enabling collaborative research across borders while ensuring full compliance with GDPR.

The project was mentioned in several contexts as a standout example of innovation in artificial intelligence and data privacy — showing how advanced AI techniques can support genomic research without compromising patient confidentiality.

ICoNS is the global meeting point for newborn sequencing pioneers — uniting researchers, clinicians, and policy leaders working to make genomic screening at birth a standard tool for preventive and personalized healthcare.

It was an inspiring opportunity to engage with those driving the future of public health through genomics.
